Housed within a carefully restored building featuring a 16th-century stone facade, the property sits directly opposite the ruins of Holyrood Abbey and the palace gates, providing guests with extraordinary views and a connection to the city's rich heritage. The setting near Holyrood Palace and its gardens contributes to a peaceful and distinctive atmosphere, appreciated by visitors seeking both sightseeing and a quieter retreat.

Far better than photos. Clean and well furnished with amazing views. Not staffed (apart from cleaning staff who arrive in the morning) but if you are looking for a quick get away with easy and fast check-in, this apartment is for you

An absolutely wonderful stay at the Cheval Abbey Strand Apartments. Having visited Edinburgh on many occasions I have to say that this was the ultimate home from home experience. I cannot imagine that the City has anything better to offer. Fantastic location, beautiful property and a friendly and helpful first point of contact.

Lovely setting and well appointed dog friendly apartments. This is our second stay here and I now think we are spoiled and now will not be able to stay anywhere else when we visit Edinburgh. The apartment building is jury’s outside the gate to Holyrood Palace and the adjoining gardens are an excellent addition to our stay - when the gates are locked at night it really is like a private garden. Dog friendly to the point where a bed, bowls, treats & dog bags are provided. The rooms have kitchen/dining areas which are a boon to welcome our adult children over for Easter breakfast & takeaway night.

This hotel is one of the best hotels I've been in all my vacations. Great staff during check in, daily housekeeping and refilling of items. Hotel room is inside a building with lots of character inside and outside. Rooms have a very nice scent when you walk in. Everything inside the room is very detailed and high end. Counter top stove and oven uses Siemen. Vanity lights are made in England and match the room very nicely. Light switches are from ABB which I've never seen before. Walls have wainscoting, and some walls have exposed brick/stone which complements the room very nicely. Walls of the room had a very nice shade of green, very very nice. Fully stocked kitchen (they included UK milk, which was very nice). Pots, pans, utensils all were all included. Nepresso Coffee machine was very nice. All bedrooms had an ensuite, with the master bedroom having a bath tub. Shampoo, conditioner, body soup, lotion were all high end Made in Scotland brands. Bed mattresses were thick and comfy. Everything was very clean. Living rooms had lots of windows facing the sun. Lots of couches and chairs. Windows had nice window seatings.

Beautiful rooms, perfect location, and very unique courtyard. It is at the gate of the Holyrood Palace and you can see into the grounds from this hotel. We had a lovely time. Only thing, if it's a hot day, there's no air conditioning as is common in the UK and the windows wouldn't open well, and there was no fan without asking. My husband and I roasted the first evening. So bring cool clothes, even as late as September.

Well it is lovely to find a place which looks even better than the photos. Our appartment was spotlessly clean everywhere, very neat and stylishly presented. Everything you would need for a short or longer stay. Comfortable bed, good blinds, lovely kitchen. The shower is brilliant and just works, no messing about trying to get the temp right. The building is full of character and really old, but tastfully modernised. You enter via a staircase in a tower from the well maintained and cared for garden. The location worked really well for us being at the bottom of the high street it's easy to find - 10 minutes walk from the centre. But it's far enough away from the crowds and nightlife to be quiet.

Firstly, the good points about this place - Beautiful and clean apartment with modern decor. They provided clean linen and housekeeping daily which was very much appreciated especially after getting caught in the rain every day! Our apartment also came with a kitchenette and a spacious living area. There is no air-conditioning, but I believe that is quite common in properties in Edinburgh (and most of UK). Location was great - just next to Holyrood House, and an easy walk to the Royal Mile, Arthur's seat, and Calton Hill. Now the bad points - mostly pertaining to how the place is administrated. 1) The email provided on Agoda did not work, so my wife and I had to email almost every known email for the property we found on google before somebody replied us. They're supposed to send out a code for the apartment prior to check in but none was forthcoming until we borderline harassed them over email! It appears to be a consistent issue as while we were staying there, we came across at least 4-5 other parties who tried to check-in and had not received a code! One poor family was stuck out in the rain until we came along to let them into the sheltered common area. 2) There is also no staff on-site as advertised. The reception is not manned and do note, if you choose to leave your bags there, there's nobody to keep an eye on it. 3) Difficult to contact any staff - the number provided actually goes thru to their other property at Old Town Chambers - they are not always easily reachable and we decided to walk to that property to speak to them about our queries during the stay instead. In summary, a lovely apartment but the management company really needs to up their game when it comes to customer service and being responsive to customers (neglecting to send out check in codes in a timely manner and listing a dud email is really inexcusable!)

An exquisite and meticulously restored piece of living history. This isn't just accommodation; it's an immersion into Old Edinburgh. The building's 16th-century stone facade, set directly opposite the dramatic ruins of Holyrood Abbey and the Palace gates, promises a stay steeped in grandeur and legend. The Abbey Strand Apartments offer a once-in-a-lifetime, historic lodging experience. They excel in location, authenticity, and exclusive atmosphere. You are paying for the privilege of living inside a museum-quality piece of Edinburgh's story. A 5-star experience for those who prioritize unique heritage and location above all else. It’s less a place to sleep and more a destination in itself. For the right traveller, it is worth every penny.
